Test using the forum here

This thread (topic) is just trying out using the forum. Say anything you like here, just to get used to how it works.

forum privacy

fair enough, you are probably correct about the forums. I can't remember exactly what was discussed about privacy.

In that case, Citysiders should be aware (Mark or I should put a heading at the top of the forums) that they are not private, so people may choose not to reveal personal information for prayer or whatever.

I know of one forum where people do reveal personal stuff for prayer even though it is publically browsable, so i may be overly sensitive here.

i guess they will develop as they develop.

hmmm

I was under the impression (and am of the opinion) that anyone who comes to the site should be able to read the forum discussions, but not participate in them until they log on.
What's the rationale for having forums that visitors to the site can't read?
I might be missing something...

Yes, Brenda, I've noticed

Yes, Brenda, I've noticed that too.

Also, the creationtide topic is currently viewable even by people who aren't logged in, so don't say any personal stuff in that topic! The other topics only display to logged in users, which is as it should be.

There is a little tweaking needs to happen, I may get to it myself (but i will be slow as am learning the site/PHP and don't want to break it ), or I'm sure Mark will get to it when he has time. I'm still very impressed with all that Mark has done.

My opinion is that until there are lots of topics, let's just have one forum for all topics, and if we see a need to further subdivide the forums that can happen down the track.

two noticings

hi Jonathan,
I notice two things about these forums. First, that neither of the two forum topics you've put up appears until you log on as a user (only Lisa's creationtide one is accessible to read as a guest). Second, that all three forum topics (test, healing words, and creationtide) have been created under the larger heading 'website changes'. I think that there are more 'levels' of topic than are being noticed...i.e. there's a 'forum' level ('website changes) and then 'topics' within that forum (we have three - unrelated to each other or to the 'forum' heading), and then posts underneath that. Am I reading this right? Do we need all three levels, or should there just be 'topics' and 'posts'?

Re blogs et al

Jeannie, that might be a good idea.

For now,

Essentially, a blog (shortened from the word "web log") is simply a space for you to say whatever you like. Kinda like a journal which is publically viewable.

Blog entries are typically short, and don't need to be fully developed ideas or professional-level articles, but anything goes. It's your space to do with as you please :)

Mike McMillan has started a blog here which may give you an idea, but really anything at all goes. For another example of what a blog can contain, look at my blog www.xhile.blogspot.com

Blogs et al

Hey Jonathan - I'm wondering about someone like you doing a mini seminar or similar to help people like me get more of a grip on things like blogs - I'm not sure that i really understand what they are and how they work. I might find out by observing this site for a while ... but maybe there are more out there like me who would appreciate some practical input on blogs and other aspects of using this website.

hmm... looks like it's

hmm... looks like it's working for me this time. Yay.
